Prologue...Epilogue-- A journey from Beginning till the End

A while back I read a book, which hooked me in right from the very first page. I was reading the prologue and after two pages of it, I was like WOW; I have never read anything so beautiful. A book’s prologue is the first thing that tells me for sure whether or not I am going to like it. For me a prologue is the first few pages of description that sets the tone and mood for the entire book. If we go for a formal definition then,

A prologue (Greek πρόλογος prologos, from the word pro (before) and lógos, word) is an opening to a story that establishes the setting and gives background details, often some earlier story that ties into the main one, and other miscellaneous information. The importance of the prologue in Greek drama was very great; it sometimes almost took the place of a romance, to which, or to an episode in which, the play itself succeeded.
[From Wikipedia.com]

Here, read this one; it’s my favourite prologue till date…

One Week Girlfriend by Monica Murphy

Day 6
Too caught up.

Those three little words ring through my head over and over. The perfection description of how
I’m feeling at this very moment. Too caught up in your sweet, heartbreaking words, in your strong,
capable arms and in your warm, soft lips. I’m too caught up in this…pretend life I’m so completely
submersed in.

And you know what? I like it. I love it. Even though I know deep down inside, it’s fake. That
the way you talk to me, look at me, touch me. Kiss me…is all for show. I’m some sort of protection
for you but I don’t care. I want it.
I want you… [click here]

In the same way a prologue shows what happens before the main story begins, an epilogue is a separate section showing events that happen later. It may jump ahead months or even years, and will give extra insight into the characters’ lives. Not every story needs an epilogue, but it can be useful to give the story closure. Or if the author is planning a sequel, it can set the tone and plot for that.
Formally, an epilogue is defined as

An epilogue is a piece of writing at the end of a work of literature, usually used to bring closure to the work. It is presented from the perspective of within the story; when the author steps in and speaks indirectly to the reader that is more properly considered an afterword. An epilogue is a final chapter at the end of a story that often serves to reveal the fates of the characters. Some epilogues may feature scenes only tangentially related to the subject of the story. They can be used to hint at a sequel or wrap up all the loose ends.

As amazing as the prologue is for “One week Girlfriend”, its epilogue is equally beautiful. Take a look at this…

A new week, a new life

Fable
Dear Fable,
My worst enemy is behind me because of you.
And there’s still a lot left for me to explain.
Right now, all I can think about is you.
So many things in my life confuse me and…
Hurt me—except you.
Maybe we can be together again someday.
All I really want is you, but I can’t do this now.
Losing you will be the hardest thing I’ve dealt with yet.
Loving you might be a mistake. Drawing you into my world will
Only hurt you. And I refuse to do that.
Will you ever forgive me?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I love you.
Drew
While I was searching more on this, on some exceptional prologues and epilogues, I stumbled upon an amazing article on the same topic. Titled “From Prologue to Epilogue” by Angie Dickens, it provided me with great insight and thoughtfulness on the subject. As very rightly said, the basic intention of a prologue and epilogue in a book is to
Bring the Story Full Circle
There was a very amazing example given by her, keeping her own book as the baseline. I am quoting her here, directly from her blog page.
Example 1- Situational- In the prologue, the heroine, at four years old, hides and cries in the barn because her BROKEN father finds out the sin of his wife. In the epilogue, the heroine's four year old daughter runs to the barn in a game of hide and seek, squealing and playing with her cousin, only to be coaxed out by her own LOVING father and her redeemed mama.
Example 2- Figurative speech
In the prologue, the heroine's mama's secret sin is buried deeper than "a harvest worth of crop", an appropriate
analogy since the setting is a farm in rural Texas.
In the epilogue
, the heroine's mama is redeemed, and her blessings are more abundant than "a harvest worth of crop."
*****
This is such a beautiful concept. I often think about the link between endings and beginnings - I love reading a book that creates a sense of resonance.
I like the idea of connecting the two. I also think that each book is different - in some cases Prologues and epilogues add to the book, in other cases, not so much. People who claim to 'love' or 'hate' them are being a bit narrow... It's simply a case by case thing.
I have so many amazing examples, to share with you guys, but obviously I can’t write them all down. So here’s another one of my favorites.
While It Lasts By Abbi Glines
Prologue
My Eva Blue
The fact I’m writing this letter pains me more than you could ever know.  This isn’t something I ever want you to read but I know that you deserve a goodbye. You deserve so much more than that and God willing you will get the perfect life that we’ve spent hours together daydreaming about.
I’ve loved you since the moment I looked into those pretty blue eyes of yours. Even at five years old, I knew there’d never be a girl that could take your place in my heart. No one would ever compare to you. It would always be you for me, Eva Brooks.  Always. Please remember that, you were all that ever mattered to me. No one else ever touched my heart the way you did. My life was marked with every year I grew more and more in love with the wild, crazy, beautiful girl next- door. I lived in awe that this perfect angel wanted me, that this amazing woman would be my wife. The life we planned. The life we dreamed about was what kept me going as long as I did.
I pray to God you never have to read this letter. I want this to be a letter I pull out of my box one day for you to read when we are old and gray. We can smile and realize how much we have to be thankful for that this letter was never needed. But Eva, if you do receive this letter from my mom one day, then know: I loved you until my last breath. You were the only thing on my mind when I closed my eyes the last time. Our time together was more perfect than anyone’s life should be. The life I lived was heaven on Earth because I spent it with you.
One day you will heal. Life will go on for you. Another guy will be lucky enough to find a place in your heart. When that happens, love him. Move on. Live that life of happiness that you deserve. Know that I loved you. Know that you made my life complete. But move on Eva. Love again. Live your life.
Love,
Josh
Epilogue
Dear Josh,
Thank you for giving me the most amazing memories. My life growing up was so full because you were in it. Having your love and loving you was always just right. It made sense. You were my home. When I was with you I knew everything would be okay.
You dried my tears for me when I was sad. You held my hand when we buried my mother. You made me laugh when the world seemed like it was falling apart. You were every special memory a girl could have. That first kiss will forever be embedded in my brain. It was as funny as it was sweet.
Our life together molded me into the woman I’ve become. I understand what it feels like to be loved and cherished because I had that with you. I never doubted my worth because you taught me I was worthy.
When you said that one day I would heal I didn’t believe that was possible. Life couldn’t go one without my best friend. There was no room for another guy in my heart. It turns out you were right. You always were. I found him. He is incredible. He is nothing at all like I would have planned. He doesn’t fit into a perfect package. He managed to wiggle into my heart and take over before I knew what was happening. I found that happiness you told me would come along. I’m going to go live that life. I’m sure it will be a wilder ride than I ever imagined and I can’t wait to live it. He’s my home now.  I’ll always love you. I’ll never forget you. But this is my goodbye. I wasn’t ready before to let you go. Now, I can move on. Your memory will live on in my heart always.
Love,
a Professional Bitch (Cathouse #3) by M.J. Kadish
Book Name: A Professional Bitch(Cathouse #3)
Author: M.J. Kadish
Genre/Tags: Thriller, Erotica
Publisher: Self-Published
My Rating:
Sabrina Scott, Blaire's chief rival, is alive - and she's out for revenge. She's resurrected the terror network Al Jabbar, and is racing to get her hands on a nuclear weapon to be used in an attack on the United States. Even worse, the mysterious terrorist mastermind, Shahryar, is anticipating the CIA's every move, and helping to protect Sabrina so she can bring about her dastardly plan.
As the CIA is dealing with this threat, Blaire has been put on the sidelines, asked to help train a new generation of DIVAs - deep cover agents trained in the art of seduction and sexual manipulation. Project Cathouse has been restarted, this time in Las Vegas. But Blaire is now the teacher, not the student.
Her task is to mentor five of the new male recruits, each one presenting their own unique challenge - especially the mysterious Hunter Black. But beyond that, she's now a role model for the new female DIVAs, and the ambitious Katya Jones is out to prove she's better than Blaire ever was. The warning signs are there, and now Blaire needs to prevent Katya from turning into another Sabrina, and help keep Hunter from becoming another duplicitous Drummond Scott - the man who betrayed Blaire and tried to kill her.
But her training efforts are quickly sidelined when Diego Escarra, a deadly enforcer for the Colombian drug cartels, arrives in town with information not only about Sabrina's impending attack, but possibly the identity of Shahryar himself. But Diego also brings with him an even bigger threat - one which could destroy everyone in the Cathouse if it's not exposed. And the only one who can get close enough to stop him is Blaire - that is, if Sabrina and Drummond don't kill her first.
The danger has never been greater. The stakes have never been higher. This time, saving the world is going to take more than a Hooker Spy...
It's going to require a Professional Bitch.
Book 3 of the Cathouse Series is a shocking, entertaining, and sexually-fueled spy thriller unlike any readers have ever before experienced. Discover the twists that occur after the events of A Hooker Spy, and what it really means to be a Professional Bitch.
In this third instalment of the cathouse series, we see Blaire going back to the cathouse to train a new batch of DIVAs, this time in Las Vegas. It’s super-hot and all the spy stuff is just off the roof.
Blaire is the new instructor in the new Cathouse along with Rae and almost all of the gang from the original cathouse. This book had so much going for it in terms of plot and sex quotient. When it comes to sexiness, I think the five new baby DIVAs Blaire gets to mentor takes the cake. She falls in love with all of them as part of their training. Introducing five new characters, making them different and unique from each other, and carrying on individual romances with the same heroine… THAT was AWESOME. Each character special and different, and had him his own arc and romance with Blaire. Each mentee embodies a stereotypical romance novel character.  You have the “sexy cowboy,” you have the “rough and tumble bad boy,” you have the “witty prankster,” the “sensitive and soulful artist,” and then of course you have the “ridiculously sexy rich guy with control issues and a dark secret.”  So there is literally something for every female reader in this book.
This book has probably single-handedly given every woman who reads this book a FUPA (“Fat Upper Pelvis Area)complex!  I liked the idea that these trainees could kinda get into Blaire’s head and make her self-conscious, because it was a good way to set up this notion that she had her work cut out for her.
Katya was an interesting character.  In my head, I was thinking “Sabrina 2.0” when she was introduced, and I really didn’t like her.  But then, as the book went on, she redeems herself and she becomes a really likable character. I was surprised I had such a strong reaction to her death.  I guess I didn’t realize how much I came to care about her as a character. The author shined a light on the characters that readers tended not to like and made them a bit more sympathetic.  The books have a theme that a woman is never really a bitch, she just doesn’t know any other way of expressing her .
In this book we see that Shahryar is dominating as the bad guy. The threat of this bad guy has become very real as Blaire loses the people closest to her because of his evil schemes. Book 1 had no real life-or-death stakes to it.  And though Shahryar was manipulating events in book 2, the real threat there came from Daddy Sayeed.  This was the book where Shahryar got real, and begin to illustrate the kind of destruction he is willing to unleash. And when we reach the end, and it is revealed who this shahryar person really is I WAS OUT OF MY FREAKING MIND. I mean I was already having intutions that it was going to be someone close to Blaire but HOLY SMOKES never ever in my wildest dreams I dreamt of THAT.
One of the things I really liked in this book is that we did get to see a different side of Sabrina and Drummond’s relationship.  I felt like I got answered a lot of questions I had about them and how they felt about Blaire. We saw Sabrina and Drummond’s journey as flashback chapters. After reading those I realised that what Blaire had with Drummond was never meant to last.  But what Drummond has with Sabrina is real, even if neither of them recognises it.  These characters are broken in some way, and they’re in pain, yet on some level, they make each other happy.  But they’re both so used to being scared, and angry, and miserable, they don’t know how to recognize that happiness.
I freaking love this series. It’s so different from anything I have ever read. To me, they’re more espionage tales.  Every character has a secret, or a motivation, that eventually is tied to life and death consequences.  To me, that’s more interesting than a simple love story.
Book Review- Near & Far by Nicole williams
Near & Far (Lost&Found #2) by Nicole williams
Book Name: Near & Far (Lost & Found #2)
Author: Nicole williams
Genre/Tags: Contemporary Romance
My Rating:
There’s optimistic. And there’s Jesse Walker.
If he wasn’t so charming, his sunny disposition and incessant grin would get old. Fast.
Falling in love with the broken girl who had at first seemed immune to anything resembling love was the best thing to happen to Jesse since the Walkers adopted him when he was five.
As Jesse’s life continues at the ranch and Rowen begins making her mark in the Seattle art community, they wonder where the middle ground is. Or if there even is one.
As push comes to shove, they’re forced to make choices neither are eager to make, and Jesse and Rowen have to face what their lives might look like without the other.
Can two people with such tragic pasts and different presents expect a promising future together? Whatever the answer, they’ll need a lot more than love to make it.
*Recommended for mature readers due to moderate content and language.
“For you, I’m a weak, weak man. I’m so weak for you that you could break me with one word. You could end me with one look. You could ruin me with one touch.”
Near & Far is the second book in the Lost & Found series by Nicole Williams. It is no secret that Nicole is one of my favorite authors and getting to read and review this book made me crazy excited. If you haven't read Lost & Found yet, please please please do so! You can read my review for Lost & Found by just clicking on the link.
Near and Far starts off where Lost and Found left off. In this book we follow Rowen and Jesse through the first year of their long distance relationship. The main conflict of the book is whether or not Jesse and Rowen can maintain their long distance relationship. Jesse is needed on the ranch while Rowen is becoming a rising artist in the Seattle city life. Long distance relationships aren’t easy, but they are making it work. Every few weeks Jesse drives to Seattle, or Rowen takes the Greyhound to Montana. It’s not ideal, but it’s okay.
Rowen is now in a new city, pursuing her passion in art and slowly making a name for herself in this new world far away from the only place she ever considered home – Willow Springs. Her love for Jesse grounds her, keeps her from reverting back to the scared and angry little girl that she once was, but knowing he has been and always would be the light at the end of the tunnel she used to live in, makes her constantly fearful of losing him, of him finding someone better than her, almost expecting it to happen sooner or later. She loves him with all her heart, but her self-destructive tendencies resurface at times, convincing her that she would eventually end up destroying the little piece of heaven she has found with Jesse.
“I always knew I would be the one responsible for tearing us apart because that’s what I did and that’s what I was good at. No matter how hard I tried to be something else, something better, I couldn’t keep the destructive part of me fully contained.”
I fell for Jesse Walker while reading Lost and Found. I was happy to see that I loved him just as much in this book. He wasn’t quite as perfect, but he was still amazing and real. Jesse is just a lovable charming guy. He is sweet, sexy, honest and caring. He’s just that type of guy.
“Do you always have to see the good in everyone”
No, I don’t have to. I choose to.”
But all is not well!!
Jesse is secretly fighting his own demons while away from Rowen. His self-control is failing him, nightmares from his childhood have returned and his anxiety and fear of losing the love of his life are rearing their ugly heads at night, when he’s most vulnerable, and torturing him with flashbacks from his abuse-ridden childhood. His mind has equated the fear of losing Rowen to the fear he experienced as a little boy at the hands of two cruel parents.
Jesse really struggles with his past in this book. He may seem like he has it all together, but when his nightmares start to surface, plus the distance between he and Rowen is starting to get to him... it is a recipe for disaster.
"I realized that our past never leaves us. We might think we've left it behind, but that's when it sneaks up and beats the hell out of you. Our past is always a part of us..."
Hearing about Jesse’s past really just broke my heart. I know that the author touched on it in book one, but to hear the details... it’s intense. He wants to shield Rowen from it. The more they struggle as a couple with distance and time apart, the more Jesse’s mind turns against itself and convinces him that the woman he adores is better off without someone as unstable as him in her life.
“I don’t want her to know. I don’t want her to be a part of it. I don’t want her near it. I want her as far away from the poison flowing through me as I can keep her.”
Jesse has always been there for Rowen. He’s been her calm, her constant, her strength. Now, it’s time for her to return the favour.
Jesse isn't the only person who's grown. Garth, yes the jerk we see in L&F, while still snarky and sarcastic, is a huge friend to both Jesse and Rowen. He is freaking hilarious, but it is obvious he is deeper than he initially appears and he feels more than he lets on. I love that he and Jesse have tenuously mended fences in this book. Garth has a unique way of looking at the world and his own way of protecting those he cares about. I loved that he plays a big part in helping Jesse and Rowen's relationship. I really cannot wait for his book to come out next year. You wouldn’t think it, but he gives good advice...
"I don't know much about these kinds of things, but it seems like you don't fall out of love with someone because of their fuck ups. It seems like if you really love someone, you love them in spite of their fuck ups."
“So you messed up. Big time. So you messed up big time. We all do. It’s time to start practicing what you preach and forgive yourself. If any guy deserves a second chance, it’s you, Jess.”
“That’s what I would have done. I’d keep the truth from someone if I thought it would save them some pain.”
All our old favorite characters are back, and we also meet four new people ( a couple of them made my blood boil) who all play a pretty large part in the story... Alex, Rowen’s roommate (LOVED her); Jolene, what a bitch!!! I wanted to reach in my Kindle and slap the shit out of her; rowen’s TA, Jax, I found him to be an egotistical douche and I did not like him; and Mar, a homeless woman Rowen befriends (don’t even want to think about her).
In N&F, the split between Rowen and Jesse's POV is a huge plus in my eyes because, if you've read Lost and Found, finding out and learning what goes on in that philosophical/deep mind that Jesse has become my top priority. In L&F we saw Rowen grow out of her shell and become a confident and determined person. In N&F we see not only a growth in the couple's relationship, but also a personal growth in Jesse. We see Jesse learn to trust himself as well as Rowen to make their situation work.
If you’re looking for a series written with heart, impeccable skill and capable of turning you into a gushing mess over a gentle cowboy whose mere presence on a page will make you grin ear to ear, look no further than the Lost and Found series.
In this book we will see that loving someone isn't always easy from a distance even with compromises. Sometimes love isn't enough when you let your head mess with you.  At the end of the day, when it's all said and done, is the love and bond these two have strong enough to stand the test of time, others who threaten their relationship, their own demons, long distance, but ultimately: themselves?
Some of my favourite quotes from the book
Promise me that when you’re done telling me what you need to, that we’ll be okay. Promise me nothing’s going to change between us. Promise me that, and I know I can deal with anything.”
“When Jesse and I were close enough to share the same breath, confusion and uncertainty were distant memories.”
I was hers, she was mine, we were each other's. It was powerful stuff that hit me in moments like that. I knew it was the kind of profoundness that would get me labeled as whipped sap, and I didn't give a damn.
“Our priorities aren’t what we say they are. They’re what we show they are.”
“A woman like her was every man’s dream. A woman who couldn’t be shaken and would stand shoulder to shoulder in the face of a storm. I’d found that kind of woman and, beyond all belief, she loved me. And I had to let her go.”
I wouldn't let the self-destructive person I'd locked up months ago out of her cage, and would do everything in my power to make sure I never ran out of luck when it came to Jesse. Whatever came, whatever obstacles we faced, one thing was certain: he was there now. He chose to give his love to me, and that had left me forever changed, not matter what happened.
Author Interview- Michele G. Miller
Welcome authorMichele G. Miller
Having grown up in both the cold, quiet town of Topsham, Maine and the steamy, southern hospitality of Mobile, Alabama, Michele is something of a enigma.  She is an avid Yankees fan, loves New England, being outdoors and misses snow.  However she thinks southern boys are hotter, Alabama football is the only REAL football out there and sweet tea is the best thing this side of heaven and her children’s laughter!
Her family, a doting husband and three awesome  minions, have planted their roots in the middle of Michele’s two childhood homes in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Never Let You Fall is Michele’s first novel and she is beyond thrilled to have finally followed up on a dream she has held for over 20 years!  God willing there will be many many more books to follow.
Here's what she has to say in an exclusive interview with Review Buzzz
When did you first realize you wanted to be a writer?
- Back in high school I worked on the yearbook staff and at the time I really thought going into print media would be fun.  I loved learning how create page layouts to send to the printer.  I loved writing quirky puff pieces too.  I actually wrote a student section piece on toothpaste! LOL!  I used all the names to make a cute piece…example: "We AIMed to make our smiles GLEAM each day."
How long does it take you to write a book?
- I would say ideally it would take 3-4 months.  My goal is to write about 90K in a book and 2k words a day.
What do you think makes a great story?
- Great characters.  You want readers to love them, hate them, cheer for them and especially understand what motivates them.  If I understand the characters I'm reading I will want to read the story even if I don’t quite like the plot line so much.
What inspired you to write the book(s)?
- Just a strange creative moment.  I had this little idea pop into my head that I wanted to write about a guardian who protects a girl who is the "key" to something.  That was my original thought.
How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
- Just Never Let You Fall so far.  I am working on two now and I have a piece of an adult contemp rom done and plan on finishing a NA contemp rom this year.  Choosing one?  That's like picking a favourite kid- I only do that occasionally ;)
What was your favorite part of the book(s)?
- *mild spoiler* I truly enjoyed writing the first kiss scene in NLYF.  That was a fun scene to finally do.
What was the hardest part to write in the book(s)?
- The parts where Xander has to be a jerk because he needs to push Skye away.  That's so against Xander's character to be hateful to her.  So it was hard.
If you could meet any character from your book, go out for a coffee and have a little chat, who would it be and why?
- Oh my goodness that is hard!  Griffin intrigues me.  We know so little about him and he seems a little cocky.  I'd like to get his story.
What is the name of your most recent book and if you had to sum it up in 30 or less words, what would you say?
- I'm writing book 2 right now.  30 words..it's an epic fantasy.  We find Xander on a major quest and Skye gets all warrior princess on us.  It's still a story about love and being brave.
Do you have a favorite place you love to write?
- I have the start of an office in the corner of my kids TV room right now.  We are working on doing some remodelling in our house and I will have my very own office soon.  Hopefully *fingers crossed*
How hard is it to get published?
- Well I self-published because I think it is SUPER hard.  The awesome books and people who I have seen turned down by traditional publishers astounds me.  As far as self-pubbing goes it's one of those things that is really easy to do but hard to do right.  You NEED a professional cover and edit unless you are super super talented and great at grammar.  I would suggest using professionals regardless of how great you might think you are just because I think you need that other person's perspective.
What do your family and friends think about your books?
- So far so good.  The only family member who actually finished my book so far (that I know of) is my mom and she called me to ask when #2 was coming out.  As for friends they have been very sweet in their praise.  I work with a high school youth group and the girls have loved it.
What do you like to do when you are not writing?
- I'm addicted to social media.  I seriously spend so much time chatting on FB and Twitter it's not even funny.  When I can step away from the PC I am usually reading.   Now that summer is here I will spend more time by the pool with my kiddos…but even then I will probably be reading ;)
Is there an Author that you would really like to meet?
- I think I am meeting just about everyone I want to meet this month at UTopYA Con in Nashville! I am stoked!  My favourite gal is Amy Bartol and I get to be on a panel with her!  So um yea…I LOVE my life ;)
Who designed the cover of your book?
- The cover photo is by a photographer in Cali named Nikolai Designs.  I picked found her through Pinterest and fell in love with her stuff.  The Cover design was done by KKeeton Designs.  Kelsea is an amazing photographer, designer and hair and make-up artist!
If your book was made into a TV series or Movie, what actors would you like to see playing your characters?  Feel free to add pictures.
*Let me say I'm picking these people for looks not necessarily for their stellar acting skills!
My muse for Xander is already an actor J  Derek Theler
For Skye - Selena Gomez.  She has that soft small venerable look
Rioden- Van Helsing (Hugh Jackman) LOL He is too old now but he back then he would be my choice.
Selene- I could go with Kate Beckinsale.  She's already done the goth looking, piercing blue eyes look for Underworld.
